Blue Mountain Health System physician, Richard Miller, MD, will offer a community education talk, Know Bones About It: What women need to know about bone density and bone health on Tues., Feb. 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the community room at the Gnaden campus, 211 N. 12th St. in Lehighton. Bones play many roles in the body. In addition to supporting us and allowing us to move, they protect our brain, heart, and other organs from injury. They also store minerals such as calcium and phosphorous. Bone density or bone mineral density BMD) is the amount of mineral matter in a bone per centimeter square. When your bone mineral density is low your bones will become weak and likely to develop bone diseases such as osteomalacia and in severe cases osteoporosis. The good news is, it’s never too late to take care of your bones—find out what you need to know about bone density and bone health. Radiology staff will be in attendance to discuss bone density, or DEXA, scans, how they can help predict future fracture risks and guide treatment plans for osteoporosis management. Please call 610-377-7070 to register.
