Black Lung Clinic

Black Lung Clinic

Helping you to breathe easier

The Pennsylvania Black Lung Coalition has named the Gnaden Huetten campus of the Blue Mountain Health System as the exclusive provider in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The coalition’s goal is to bring medical attention and compensation to coal miners and others suffering from coal worker’s pneumoconiosis (black lung disease) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The clinic serves individuals who live in Carbon, Columbia, Dauphin, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Northumberland and Schuylkill Counties.

The Gnaden Huetten campus of the Blue Mountain Health System has the expertise to help active, inactive and retired coal miners, as well as others with COPD, live life fully. If you have worked in the coal mines, construction or garment industry, rock foundry or steel mill, have breathing problems, or suspect you might have an occupational lung disease such as black lung, emphysema, silicosis, asthma, asbestosis or bronchitis, you need to be tested. Even if you do not have problems breathing, testing now will establish a baseline for future comparisons.

Services include:

  • Diagnostic testing
  • Education pertaining to breathing disorders
  • Influenza vaccinations
  • History and physical exam by a pulmonologist
  • Individual treatment plan
  • Prescriptions and medications
  • Adjunctive therapy

Today more than ever, laborers with lung disease can look forward to breathing easier. Medical treatments make it possible to live full and productive lives even with lung disease.
